Slather on that sunscreen!

This one may come as a surprise, but those sneakers will come in handy for climbing Atlantic City’s famed Absecon Lighthouse! Take an amazing journey above it all as you ascend the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. You’ll see breathtaking views of the Atlantic City skyline and up top you’ll come face-to-face with the original first-order Fresnel Lens, first lit in 1857.

The lighthouse’s recent multi-million dollar restoration also includes a stunning replica of the Lightkeeper’s dwelling, an educational museum, charming gift shop, Fresnel Lens exhibit in the original Oil House and expansive grounds.

Best of all, parking and Admission to the Keeper’s House Museum, Exhibits and Grounds is free all year-round!

Pack a picnic!

You’ll have to stay for lunch in order to get your eyes full of a certain beloved, larger-than-life pachyderm. Lucy the Elephant is located along the beach in Josephine Harron Park in Margate, NJ. This architectural novelty is six stories high and is listed on the National Park Registry of Historical Landmarks. The park is fenced and contained, making child supervision easy. Picnic tables are on site for eating outdoors.

On the tour you will learn about Lucy’s unique design and her history and you will get to climb a spiral staircase through her insides all the way up to the howdah on her back, providing a spectacular 360 degree view of the surrounding shore area.

Children and families are sure to enjoy visiting the only elephant in the world “you can walk through and come out alive!” Convenient hours and of course, Lucy is always available by appointment to be toured by schools and groups.

Practice your fishy face!

Atlantic City’s Sea creatures are waiting to step up to the glass and pose with you! The Atlantic City Aquarium, which opened in May 1999, is the most dynamic addition to Historic Gardner’s Basin. The Aquarium provides a first class experience for shore visitors. The Aquarium also offers a unique educational field trip for students. It’s a great way to introduce visitors, classes or community groups to New Jersey’s Coastal Marine Environment.

You’ll want to zoom in on some of our breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime sights to see! Spend the day at the bay at Historic Gardner’s Basin, nestled on a protected channel along the back bays, directly across from the state marina and Coast Guard station. This bayside park offers shopping, dining, fishing and sightseeing boat rides for all ages.

From distinctive hand-crafted gifts in the Crafters Village and unique boutiques, to dolphin-watching and sightseeing cruises, Historic Gardner’s Basic is the perfect destination to spend a delightful hour, an afternoon or the day by the bay.

This maritime park on North New Hampshire Avenue replaces the hustle and bustle of the Boardwalk with a different type of activity. Sightseeing and fishing cruises come and go from the docs, the restaurants serve up seafood and ale house brews, the Atlantic City Aquarium offers an interactive aquarium and special events attract thousands.
